At the End of the Rope (#447)

In this kingdom getting to the end of our rope is not to be feared, but celebrated. At the end of all our efforts, doubts, and fears is a Loving Father and the freedom to see life through his eyes instead of our own. It doesn't always take that, but often it does and God is gracious enough to walk us through the process even when we don't know or believe he is there. Listener comments and email fill out the story from other people's experience and the light they've gained by going through the deep water with him and finding a rich dependency on him that is difficult for us to find in the good times we so ardently seek.

  1. Thanks Wayne for sharing those words and encouragement along with some of your own “walk” with your family and others. There are wounds that run deep….(not time for details here) (smile) The way you expressed the pain in the middle of brokenness and the hope that comes from a relationship with Father were like balm gently placed on the “wounds” in my life which He is walking me through right now. How wonderful that He replaces the exhaustion of our own efforts with His quiet strength and purpose. It’s possible through tears to still live in growing trust for His motives towards us. Blessings.

  2. Wow Wayne! There are no words. Prayers for you and your family. I love that you expressed the peace beyond all understanding that comes in the midst of the frustration of dealing with the death, present or imminent, of a loved one. Papa is kind and caring though sometimes the pain in our life makes it hard to see. He is ever present and ever faithful.

  3. Wayne, my prayers are with you and your family. I went through this last January with my Mother. It’s so difficult to live one day at a time at times like these. We know the ultimate outcome but it has to “unfold”.

I loved this podcast. Many years ago when my father was ill and dying, but we didn’t know it, I too felt like God was absent. This time I could see and understand what Paul was talking about in Hebrews 11:1. ” .. faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see”. Isn’t this what we are talking about? We have to learn who God is and have faith/trust that He is. Knowing that He IS there irregardless of what is going on in our lives. When we truly understand this, “the peace that surpasses all understanding” becomes a reality.

I don’t mean to make it sound like a cake walk but when you come out the other side, you are changed and I think it has to do with faith. Faith in a loving Father no matter the circumstances.

  4. We just got back from our trip to China and just listened to this podcast. Your words of encouragement lift me back to where I need to be. Thank you for these needed reminders. Living Loved and eager to have you visit Houston in the Fall!!

  5. Hi everyone,
I wanted to respond for quite a while now, but was just unsure how…

Actually, I think intellectually I get the point in your kind words, Wayne, regarding my post being on the right track or how to start the fire. On the other hand, I feel that it will take some time to understand this process with my heart. The last couple of days I listened to some stuff you shared in Karlsruhe in 2012 and my current approach is to accept that I cannot increase my trust in Jesus by my own. But that He wants to win me, that He slowly (I wished He would make it faster 🙂 ) draws me to Himself and that He is the one who in so doing increases my trust in Him. Only – it’s not that easy to give up trying on my own to “make” that relationship.

So thank you for your encouragement! It is great to know that I have brothers and sisters in the whole world – even if we did not meet face to face yet. I’d love to change that one day!

    Blessings,
    Simon
