Available Surrender

Brad returns from a quick trip to Jerusalem and then he and Wayne dip into the mail bag to catch up on some of the things our listeners are thinking and asking about recent podcasts. That does get them into a wide-ranging discussion about Jesus' Second Coming, the performance of religion, and the rejection someone suffers for being honest with their pastor. But the longer topic extends the "Living Out of Our Spirit" Podcast by looking further at what it may mean to be born again and waking up to that world of the Spirit where we commune with God and live inside a relationship instead of following a set of principles. Finding a continuing place of surrender to Father and the ways he works, has helped both of them grow in this reality.

  1. Noticing a growing awareness that much of my “relationship with God” has boiled down to accumulating knowledge about God. This came in handy to impress others now and then yet does little to relieve the ache and emptiness of disconnection from the LIFE.

Also noticing a parallel growing awareness of a loving presence, a gentle whisper inviting me to relax into His loving embrace and breath deeply of the refreshing Spirit.

Thank you for sharing your hearts and your journey.

  2. My son was giving a tshirt at a church that says – I Be, I do, I must. Based on Jesus at age 12. So glad we don’t strive like that anymore. Detox is about complete. 4 years just living loved and loving people. We gather casually here and there but nothing set. Loving life and loving freedom!
Thanks for all you do. I enjoy your podcasts and I frequently find myself laughing out loud with you guys!!

  3. I really appreciated the discussion in response to Lynn’s question about being born again and continuing on with what it means to walk in the Spirit. The analogy that Wayne used about “religion is like adding a new program to the computer versus living loved defined as living out of a new operation system.” The ‘programming’ just can’t/won’t compute. It gave language to help describe what I’m feeling and have been working through for a couple years now. Also, the need to lead/serve is such a knee-jerk thing with me. As you guys were talking, I was thinking about Elijah and his encounter (or lack thereof) in the fire, wind, and then the still small voice. I am working through recognizing when Papa really is talking to me and when am I just working out of the knee-jerk religous programming. I’m praying for a defrag. Thanks for the podcast.

  4. Brad and Wayne,
I just got done listening to “Available Surrender” and it struck a chord with me. I am not sure if I will be able to expess my thoughts to you both, but I will try. Over the past few years of “trying” to follow the Lord, the thought came to me of “getting off the bus” or “stopping the merry go round” and getting off to look at where I really was and see Him for who He really is. I am becoming more aware of how he wants to hear us where we are at, not where we want to be if that makes sense to you. Anyways it was really good to listen to this and wanted to you let you both know.

    God bless,
    Mark Youngs

  5. I was reminded recently of Jn 5:39-40 “You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life.” Seems to imply that the sriptures describe Jesus but are not the source of life in themselves. We still need to commune/connect with Him to have Life we won’t get it from the scriptures apart from Him.
Also someone sent me a really good article called Digging Wells or Building Fences by Sheila Pritchard. Not sure if you guys have seen this already? In summary:
A visitor to an Australian outback cattle ranch was intrigued by the seemingly endless miles of farming country with no sign of any fences. He asked a local rancher how he kept track of his cattle. The rancher replied, “Oh, that’s no problem. Out here we dig wells instead of building fences.”
The implication, I hope, is obvious. There is no need to fence cattle in when they are highly motivated to stay within range of water, their most important source of life. Really good stuff.

    Thanks again

  6. very interesting article, aims.

Initially I really liked it. But something bothered me by the end.

I think it’s the fact that, whether it’s a “boundary set” or a “centered set” we’re still talking about sets and how to tell who is in and who is out.

I would just as soon let God worry about that bit, you know? : )

  7. Glen, yes I agree we leave that to God. The important thing about this is the direction of travel. Are we moving towards Jesus as the centre and sufficiency of our life, compared to, do we assume that because we are in a church/denomination/stream we are ‘in’ and that’s all there is to it.

  8. Listening to this I thought I’d missed the rupture! Well my escapology, isnt up to much.

I like the ‘kiss my ring’ comment, not sure I’ll ever use it but you never know.
    I think I know Niedermaier..

I’m new to all this ‘out-of-the-box’ stuff, but I think I’ve been living with one foot out for many years.

Getting the second foot out has not been easy. I appreciate your podcasts which have been a great support.

    Still learning to relax….
