Certainly Not!

How can we communicate with others our heart-felt passions, even political positions, without destroying our relationship with them? Recent comments about the health care debate in the States brought a host of responses from listeners, many of which wanted to divide up sides and diminish those that disagreed with them. The pretense of certainty and our desire to convince others how right we are actually destroys both relationship and dialog. Wayne and Brad talk about the community people most often seek, they actually subvert by these tactics. It is often true that those who scream the loudest are the least certain of their grasp on truth or freedom.

  1. Thanks guys I loved this conversation. I found this in the Message this week Luke 12:1-3, its about true face. “You can’t keep your true self hidden forever; before long you’ll be exposed. You can’t hide behind a religious mask forever; sooner or later the mask will slip and your true face will be known.” I think this is a real battle for all of us. I wonder if its not part of living masked that is responsible for the desire to convince others how right we are about our positions. That scream of the loudest might be the mask slipping and it is frightening and has nothing to do with the position they are defending. Just wondering. Could it be?????? I personally love it when you two talk politics.
    Its fun.

  2. This is one conversation I am really looking forward to. I very seldom share my perspective on politics, scriptural interpretation etc.. Because all around me are people who ‘assume’ I must think like them and I no longer try and convince anyone that from my perspective I think they are wrong. I now let them be and live comfortably (most of the time – unless I am with strangers, then I can experience an inner discomfort!) in my heart perspective …
